About the Ladies Philoptochos Society
The Ladies Philoptochos Society is a national charitable organization established in 1931 by the late Archbishop Athenagoras I, then Archbishop of North and South America. The name Philoptochos translates to "friends of the poor," reflecting the ministry's mission of compassion and service.
For many years, the St. Demetrios Philoptochos Society has supported this nationwide effort by raising funds through bake sales, donations, the annual fashion show, and other initiatives. These funds benefit a wide range of causes, including national charities, the Metropolis of Chicago, and local organizations within our community.
Our members—dedicated parishioners, both men and women—devote countless hours to the philanthropic, humanitarian, and Christian mission of the Church. Guided by our primary aim to uphold the traditions, doctrines, and canons of the Orthodox faith, we engage in a variety of charitable and philanthropic activities.
We warmly invite all parishioners to join us in this meaningful work and help extend assistance to those in need. Together, we can make a difference in our community and beyond.
